Dr. Project: The Middle of a Mess
Dear Dr. Project,I've recently been thrust into the middle of a project. Upon my initial look, I'm expected to take over where another project manager failed. I have a group of Notes developers who were asked to create their own project plans, manage their tasks to loosely self-imposed dates and secure their own resources for additional development (other team members) and testing (off-site consultants), as well as do the coding for a major conversion project that will affect the entire company. Needless to say, NONE of them has the desire to be a project manager and have fought even committing tasks to "paper," let alone spec dates and manage themselves to them. They are also not communicating with each other even though they all sit in a group of cubes adjacent to each other. I've talked with several of the team one on one and let them know that I'm there to help, to ease their pain and stress where I can. Managing their tasks and keeping them on track seems to be a common theme. But my dilemma is, how can I get my arms around such a project? Any suggestions on where to start? Also, any ideas on combining their 17 project plans into a manageable document would be appreciated as well.
Thanks,
So do you prefer Monster or Hot Jobs? (Just pushing your buttons...) Actually your situation is far more positive than it seems on the surface.
