Ever hear the expression "That guy really got his bell rung!"? It is generally used in a boxing match and signifies a point at which the other fighter got a De La Hoya-style jab to the face! Well, don't wait for that to happen to your career! Every year thousands of Americans find that their careers have hit the preverbal brick wall with their current employer. The real power for you comes with the realization that a proactive move on your part can liberate you from a dead-end job and a less-than-satisfying pay check. Don't wait to hit the mat and listen for the count of ten. Keep your feet moving and your fists up in assessing your current job.

 

There is of course, more than one sign that you are in a dead-end job. But without a doubt there are three major ones. The first would be that your pay rate is not competitive with the market. The second would be a lack of direction or lack of career mapping outlined by your manager. The third would be that you do not see yourself as marketable outside your company.
