RatBot could be the first in many experiments that could lead to a project manager's paradise, where all workers get fast high-quality results without performance deviations. Until then, we are looking at how to motivate teams to do the same thing by "letting go" as managers.

 

In this installment, we are continuing through the gantthead JPACE stages to find out how to get better control over the workforce without being a tyrant or spending all of our time looking over everyone's shoulder saying "Hmph." We left off at the Activation stage, where we had noted gaps and obsolete areas in processes and procedures. You have made notes about each item you found, for example:

  • Obsolete procedures or requirements
  • Incomplete processes
  • Highly-detailed processes that might constrain top-performing teams

 

Actions by Stage: Activation

This is the period in the project where you complete your staffing and attain an understanding of the competencies and capabilities of the teams. Once you have completed your assessment, you can get to our critical success factor: developing different monitoring levels for each team. You will motivate teams to do their best and put project objectives first if you monitor them each according to their needs--and no more.
