Realizing an Enterprise Strategy (Part 1)
Organizations are faced with the difficult task of transforming their decision making, business processes and technical infrastructures to operate from an enterprise perspective. The industry leaders and their rivals were quick to realize that this change was inevitable. A huge amount of resources were put toward devising business strategies with technical frameworks to make such transformations. What business leaders did not realize was the depth of changes that would be required. It was not anticipated that management, organization culture, business processes and technology would need major--if not complete--overhaul.
Numerous mistakes were made in their race to be the first out of the gate. Businesses found themselves sinking huge sums of monies and resources to the realization of their strategies with little to no visible return on investment. Projects often had unacceptable cost and schedule overruns and failed to meet expectations of both management and customers.
Some businesses were successful. However, many were left frustrated with the lack of progress and return-on-investment. It would be great if there was a "one solution fits all" approach in making the necessary changes to remain competitive in today's environment. Unfortunately, like Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) packages, there is not one solution that can accommodate the diverse needs of this dynamic
