Realizing an Enterprise Strategy (Part 2)
It is extremely important for organizations to understand that there is more than one way to successfully realize an enterprise strategy. Just because an approach was successful for a competitor does not mean it will be successful for you. There is no “silver bullet” approach; each organization is unique.
Validate the Strategy is Whole
I use the word “whole” vice complete since a good business and technical strategy normally crosses both business and organizational boundaries and is constantly changing in response to its environment. Before proceeding with planning your strategy’s realization, make sure that it addresses the business’ short and long-term objectives.
Most importantly, make sure it addresses all aspects of the area to be changed. Businesses always address business process and technology areas; however, they often fail to address management and culture (people) aspects up front. This has repeatedly proved to be an extremely risky and expensive mistake.

It is a mistake to assign different portions of the strategy to different organization components to plan its implementation.
