Eliminating the First Day Jitters
Like first impressions, the first day of a project can define the relationship for the entire effort. Getting off to a good start is critical to success. During the sales process, the client has been convinced that the effort (project) being undertaken will help achieve the goals, and do it at reduced risk. That confidence can quickly erode when a team shows up on sight unprepared.
Nothing degrades a relationship faster than the first day scramble for workspace, net access, documents, information, phones, security badges, etc. Not to mention project team members meeting for the first time, and who are not up to speed on the project plan, and objectives causing additional confusion.
This article gives some pointers on how to insure that when sales hits one solidly, the delivery team makes sure it’s a home run.

Recently I was meeting with one of my project manager over drinks (hey, we do get to do that sometimes, right?) and we were discussing how our projects were going. My friend lamented about a project he had just kicked-off during the past week.
