It is vital that you understand company policies that may affect you upon your departure. Do you know how much vacation time you have left? Do you have to pay back any time you have already used this year? When is your commission or bonus paid out? These not the kind of surprises you want to have on your way out the door. Having your check garnished due to “policies” of this nature can be a nasty wake-up call. Do your homework ahead of time. Review your company manual…you know, that binder collecting dust on your shelf. Try to uncover any possible land mines before you step right on one!

Your Offer Letter
Yes! It comes via first-class overnight mail! Tearing it open is one of the greatest joys in life! But what if you have not received one yet, and what exactly should the letter detail? Taking first things first, make sure you have your new offer of employment in writing. That means something that your potential new employer had to sign. The offer letter itself should cover the following information:

  •  Job Title 
  • Brief Job Description (if possible; not all company’s will accommodate this request) 
  • Start Date 
  • Salary 
  • Bonus Structure (if applicable) 
  • Benefits
