We have all met the manager who is still back in the days of thinking that the people that work for him are there to work for him--period. While in the most basic sense, that is true, you are missing the big picture if you fail to realize how the way you treat your employees is a direct reflection of yourself as a manager. The good, the bad and the ugly all come shining through in your treatment of them. What does your reflection look like? Let's take a peek.
There is a popular theory circulating around our own little business world that you need to treat your employees with the same attitude that you would treat your customers. Now, before you start rolling your eyes and suggesting this is another HR scheme where you spend your time holding employees' hands rather than depending upon them to complete their work, hold on a second. This isn't just about taking care of your employees. The selfish side of it is that YOU can benefit by treating your employees as you would treat a customer. Let's review.
We all know that as far the powers-that-be are concerned, your employees and the projects they work on are a direct reflection of you. You know better than I do what that reflection looks like right now.
