Defense Against Training Surprises (Part 1 of 2)
Have you ever experienced these project training surprises?
-
Development start delayed
-
Prolonged development
-
Additional unplanned resources necessary for completion of training on time
-
Training delivery roll-out schedule delayed because courseware was not necessary
Sure, these surprises are a lot of fun, but just in case you'd rather maintain control over training development and delivery occurring your project, there are actions you can take. One of these actions is to focus on the training Design Document. This document is essential in managing training, whether the training is for your project workforce or for the users of an application created by your project.
There are many sections of the Design Document where you can provide knowledgeable feedback--if you have the knowledge. Here is the briefing you need to reduce training shockers.
By the way, gantthead provides some Design Documents ready for download.
Deconstruct the Structure
Review the description of the structure of the units/courses involved. This should be more than an outline, much more. You should be able to visualize how the course will proceed, including initiation, content, interactivity, number and types of practice, and so on.
Look for good estimates of how long it will take to complete individual units/courses
