When a company calls on consulting giant BearingPoint to help deliver a complex project, expectations run high. After all, the client certainly has its own capable managers who know the ins and outs of their business areas. But now they are confronted with issues outside their realm of experience. BearingPoint is expected to bring answers-time-tested tools and processes refined from a long history of challenging engagements in sectors ranging from high-tech and electronics to retail and finance. With big dollars at stake and a clock ticking loudly, BearingPoint and the client's project team need to hit the ground running-together. It can't happen without collaboration.

They really need to be, given the nature of the consultant-client relationship, with its potential for resistance or apprehension in the trenches. BearingPoint relies heavily on collaborative online tools and processes to "open up" a project and bring efficiencies along the way. The benefits-cost savings, faster workflow, increased visibility, better accountability-can be huge. And they can long outlive the life of any single project when they are later absorbed into an organization's project management DNA.
