CompTIA's updated IT Project+ exam to reflect 'real-life' scenarios faced by IT project managers.

The Computing Technology Industry Association will introduce later this year the first major revision of its IT Project+ certification exam since launching it in 2001. About 50 percent of the exam's content will be updated to better meet the needs of IT and project management professionals, according to CompTIA.

Initial revisions were made by 50 IT project subject matter experts, then validated through an online survey completed in April by more than 200 subject matter experts from around the world, according to the organization. Exam re-writing has begun, to be followed by a beta exam to test the validity of the revised exam items. The new exam will be available in the second half of 2003.

"The development group of subject matter experts believes the revised exam will be an improved and accurate predictor of a person's performance as an IT and project management professional," says Eva Chen, senior certification program manager at CompTIA in Oakbrook Terrace, Ill."Overall, it's a more comprehensive test with a heavy emphasis on problem solving. Many of the questions are scenario-based.
