Microsoft Project Server 2003 offers more portfolio visibility and workflow control.

Demands are greater on everyone in the project chain, from team members to project managers to senior executives. Microsoft Project Server 2003 addresses the "more-projects, less-time" mindset by providing capabilities that enable all members of the project to do their jobs faster and better.

This article highlights some features and improvements in the Business Insight and Work Management areas, and ways to use them to better advantage on projects.

View and Group Related Projects

The Project Center is the base of operations for executives, portfolio managers and other decision makers. Within Web Access, Project Center provides views on collections of projects within the organization, allows them to be grouped by a number of key fields and offers visibility into key metrics such as cost, effort and duration.

Project Server 2003 has expanded the way users can access project information through Project Center views in Web Access. In Project Server 2002, you could open a single project from a Project Center view into Project 2002 Professional. But many users need to be able to open multiple projects simultaneously. With 2003, you can select two projects and click the tool bar button called "Open...". In doing so, you create a temporary "master" project in Project Professional and insert…
