How to Hire Team Leads Who Will Destroy Your Career
With everything else you have to do, it's not surprising that you are too busy to give enough time to choosing team leads. Sometimes, others are more directly responsible for hiring these people anyway. And, really, aren't you ready to retire from project management after all?
If you find yourself rushed during interviews of candidates for a team lead, here is what to do on your shortcut to the unemployment line. Oh, and if you are able to find the time to identify a dependable, competent team lead, read on.
Ignore Team Skills
You need an overconfident, obnoxious, demanding, selfish employee to lead your teams into destruction. The first candidate that impresses you with a confident manner should be your choice. If you are lucky, this candidate will eschew the input of team members and punish them for the least infraction, no matter what their experience level. They'll love that.
Not busy enough to allow your teams to implode? Remember that just because a candidate has years of experience as a team member does not mean the candidate is ready to lead anything. Ask candidates how they would handle typical situations with employees, such as
