It is amazing how technology is affecting the world of business. Whether it is e-mail or wireless or a good old computer application, the impact of technology is felt everywhere and by all. It is even blurring the lines between the traditional business activities and new business models. Recently, I came across one such merging of boundaries in which an Information Technology Solutions provider started offering direct marketing and integrated marketing solutions.
Killer Apps Recreate, Too
Killer apps are not killer unless they kill at least one way of doing something as we know it. But then on the other hand, they also must create something--often times in an entirely different arena--to be embraced by people.
E-mail was one of the first killer applications of the New Economy. It revolutionized communication amongst people. But it also turned out to be quite a powerful tool in the hands of marketing people who found new ways to reach target demographics.
Blogs may have been started to put out the minutiae of someone's personal quirks on the web-o-sphere, but now they have developed into legitimate corporate promotional outlets enabling firms to build and nurture stronger customer relationships.
Online meeting tools may have become popular to cut costs, but now they generate a significant number of sales leads for those who know how to use them.
