What Can Go Wrong with Workgroup Workflow: Requirements & Stipulations (Part 1 of 3)
You long for workgroups with efficient workflows. Groups that start work fast and get the deliverables out on time. No quibbling with each other. No incessant requests for your assistance.
Get what you long for by identifying and communicating project requirements and stipulations.
What are requirements and stipulations? They include:
-
Projects requirements documentation
-
Expectations (such as location restrictions and other limitations)
-
Required reporting
-
Project schedule
-
Resource limitations
-
Legal requirements
Not exciting enough for you? Even when these seem routine and uninteresting, they are at their best. Even when they are obvious, they transcend. Leave them out of your preparations and watch your workgroups sputter.
Requirements and stipulations are part of the workgroup social foundation. When there is a problem with this foundation, major uncharacteristic disruptions in timeliness and quality of work are likely. Expect to see anxiety, inability to come to decisions or to continue work, infighting and more.
Any workgroup is susceptible: analysts, technical writers, developers, multi-functional teams and whoever is expecting deliverables downstream could be in for an unpleasant surprise. While this is happening, you may not recognize the cause and intervene in an inappropriate way.
