It's All Coming Together: The Convergence of Data

Over the past few months, you have undoubtedly seen that I have been less prolific in cranking out my views on the business intelligence and data management space. There's a good reason for that--I've been adjusting to life with a new addition--a baby boy.

Just when you thought you didn't have the time to do the things you wanted to do before, add a newborn to the equation and you wonder where your day went! As part of being a new father, there is one thing that I've been doing for sure--snapping photos on my digital camera. The digital camera has revolutionized the way we capture, share and store images from every aspect of life. This same sort of digital expansion has taken place in numerous aspects of our lives. Many of us use digital camcorders to capture our kids' events and digital music has become the norm. From video to audio, all of these digital media are stored on our computers or in standard relational databases and can be accessed from Web browsers or desktop software.

Now that this digital data is available to us within the context of all of our other textual or numerical data that we've had access to, similar business intelligence and mining techniques can be utilized to analyze digital data.
