As long as you have not been living in a cave for the past five years, you are undoubtedly familiar with the ongoing dialogue regarding globalization. The decision of in-sourcing vs. outsourcing and off-shoring vs. on-shoring has generated tremendous amounts of debate as well as becoming a political hotspot.
 
Without taking a particular position on this subject, it is important to see the evolution of the models of global solutions delivery and the pros and cons associated with each model. Nowhere is there a better representation of the globalization paradigm than in the IT industry. In the 1990s, IT was among the first to move to significant outsourcing through large providers like EDS and IBM. In the early 2000s, IT began exploring off-shoring with significant expansion of this practice over the past few years.
 
Being an early adopter of these labor practices, the IT industry has seen the pros and cons of in-sourced vs. out-sourced models and the benefits of low-cost labor overseas--but with the overhead of communication, infrastructure and governmental restrictions. It is really interesting to see what's happening these days.
