Doing Unto Others
Steven Spielberg. The New York Yankees. Starbucks. Canada. What do these entities have in common?
To be precise, they are members of an illustrious group of contributors who recently made generous donations to help provide relief for victims of hurricane Katrina. More has happened since then of course, and more thoughtful people and organizations are coming forward quickly to help in kind.
This list is only a small representation of how many have given in support of the tragedy and of other tragedies that have occurred in the past. The list also does not take into consideration other entities that have contributed to residents and support structures in other ways. Using a sliding scale based on personal economics, there are certainly numerous personalities and organizations who have given "until it hurts" to help the devastated communities.
There are stories of companies that have been obliterated but nonetheless promising to pay the salaries of employees for the next few months in the hopes that both will get back on their feet. Other firms have stated that they will be providing extended health services for individuals and difficult medical conditions that might not otherwise be covered. Shelter, food, new housing, relocation--for friends, acquaintances and unknowns--there is a tremendous outreach that has been taking place and needs to continue in order to
