We continue with learning how to quickly research previous project failures to meet their goals. In this part, we'll look at the three research categories in detail.
 
Three Categories in Detail
Activities/Phases/Process. Look at inadequate goal attainment connected to specific activities of the project.
  • Were goals that were not attained associated with a particular activity? A particular phase or stage? Was lack of goal attainment associated with the project management process that was used (or lack of one)? Was the entire project management process used or were certain tasks skipped?
  • Were adequate resources provided? Were they provided in a timely way?
  • Were the goals realistic? That is, were goals not attained because it was essentially impossible?
  • What were the listed causes of the goals not being met?
Teams. Look at inadequate goal attainment in workgroups. Were teams able to submit deliverables? Did teams meet performance goals? Were team skill development goals met?
 
What were the listed causes of the non-attainment? For example:
  • Inadequate team management
  • Inadequate planning
  • Inadequate skills
  • Inadequate preparation for project
  • Inadequate interactions
  • Inability to cope with project changes (…
