Engineering project was completed five months early and 21 percent under budget.
BPR-Bechtel, a Montreal-based plant engineering services firm, has received the "Project of the Year Award" from the Montreal chapter of the Project Management Institute for the successful completion of a new potlining center for the Alcan Primary Metal Group.
"We benefited from four exceptional advantages: a project schedule shortened by five months, a 21 percent reduction in costs, the use of permanent facilities to train plant operators and early start-up of operations," said Pierre Gagnon, project manager for Alcan. Guy Lapointe managed the project for BPR-Bechtel.
"Alcan considers this project to be a complete success in several ways," said Michel Charron, vice president, BPR-Bechtel. "We achieved this success together thanks to the approach we employed and the cost savings we generated through the efficient use of resources and the application of innovative project management techniques."
The PMI Montreal chapter launched the annual competition in May 2005 to showcase excellence in engineering project management in Quebec. The award marks the first step in the selection process for PMI International and makes BPR-Bechtel and its client, the Alcan Primary Metal Group, eligible to win the "Project of the Year Award" bestowed every year since 1989 by PMI
