The Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) is a set of guidelines developed in the late 1980s by the United Kingdom’s Office Of Government Commerce that describes an integrated, process-based, best-practice framework for managing IT services. Originally designed to improve IT service management in the U.K. government, ITIL is now a widely accepted approach to IT service management in both the public and private sectors throughout the world.
