In organizations that requires an understanding and quantification of the business objectives in context to the strategies that drive them. In addition, it is imperative to understand the rationale behind connecting each goal to the driving strategies.
 
Once understood, there is one question that begs asking: "Why can't we achieve the goal right now?" From that simple question comes the key to defining the gap between where the organization is standing now and where it wants to be. By pursuing strategy and objective driven process improvement initiatives alignment is virtually free.
