In the past few years, project managers have started to establish blogs, and more than a handful have gained a following by mixing the professional and the personal, advice and anecdotes. Some do it as a marketing tool, some hope to improve the field by sharing good ideas, and still others admit they enjoy the validation and creativity of blogging.
Pete Behrens was a software project manager for more than 15 years, specializing in agile methodology and process. He’s now a full-time consultant with Colorado-based TrailRidge Consulting. Just over a year ago, when he formed his own consultancy, Behrens started the Agile Executive Blog. “This is a way to get my voice out there and build credibility beyond just putting up a marketing webpage,” he says.
Whether they are promoting products, drumming up interest in a new book or selling their consulting services, project managers have discovered the blogosphere. And while project management bloggers have not yet reached a tipping point, and aren’t likely to challenge traditional industry media or high-priced consultancies for influence anytime soon, they are beginning to make an impact across a wide spectrum of disciplines.
“I think there is still a great deal of distance” between established media and PM blogs, says Brian Leach, who blogs at Project Management Scratchpad. “
