If you’re thinking about changing jobs, this is a good time to make your move. From now until the end of the year, IT recruiters are revved up to do maximum business. IT specialists have a market edge. PMs with high-demand IT credentials are holding an even better hand.
Like they say, timing is everything. Whether you live in Los Angeles, New York or Denver, IT companies will be hiring people to work on projects and contracts with 2007 deadlines. Government contractors already have their work lined up for the next two to three years.
The technology job market is still solid, and the long-term forecast remains excellent. Facing a tight job market, reduced efficiency and labor shortages, companies are putting more emphasis on attracting and retaining skilled workers, according to a recent quarterly IT employment report by Spherion Corporation, a Ft.Lauderdale, Fla., staffing firm.
Eric Wheel, managing partner of San Rafael, Calif., technology search firm PrincetonOne Search, says many IT companies will be hiring because they haven’t used up their staffing budgets for 2006. “If they don’t use the money set aside for them, they risk having next year’s staffing budget cut,” he says. “Since most companies are beefing up staffs, they’re likely to make hiring decisions before the end of the year.”
