A Monthly Alignment

In addition to the weekly team meeting, an alignment meeting should be held once a month or as needed.

Alignment meetings are generally scheduled at major team integration points, project milestones, or when an event arises that may cause major impact to the project.
 
At the beginning of a project, it may be necessary for all the functional teams to present issues and dependencies at the alignment meeting. As the project moves forward, only functional teams in the critical path should present, but all teams should be represented, with the necessary level of participation assessed prior to the meeting to identify required and optional team representatives. It is also critical that all team representatives are prepared to answer detailed questions in their respective areas and are empowered to make most decisions on behalf of their functional team.
 
These meetings should focus on the following items:
• Current delivery schedule, including status for deliverables to other teams.
• Outstanding dependencies, expected content and required delivery dates.
• Issues and resolution strategy.
• Risks and corresponding mitigation strategy and contingency plans.
 
In turn, this project information will allow other functional team members to provide relevant assessments from their perspective. These areas may include:
