Regardless of the economic climate, organizations of every stripe need techies to create and update software, safeguard networks, answer customer inquiries and complaints, and troubleshoot problems.
 
Here is a sampling of secure, high-demand tech jobs:
 
Project managers: Once again, IT project management is among the top five most in-demand skills. Companies can’t find enough experienced PMs, and they also can’t find enough high-profile candidates worth the training investment.
 
I’ve said it before: Project management can’t be offshored. Whether the project is small or massive, PMs must be everywhere. They must be comfortable at delegating responsibility, and at the same time be hands-on as much as possible. They must be in the trenches talking to their teams, vendors and stakeholders. Most importantly, they have to be at the command post, gathering, filtering and evaluating information in order to make fast and accurate decisions. It wasn’t an easy job five years ago, and it’s twice as difficult today.
 
The PM shortage is not likely to change. It’s not hard to figure out why companies are having such a hard time finding qualified PMs, either. Heading the list, it’s not easy finding smart, Renaissance-type people who can do several things well. If that trendy term “multitasking” can …
