Maintain a positive work environment by watching out for these motivation killers.

During economic uncertainty, there is a tendency to view morale as a luxury. Big mistake. Motivation is the single greatest influence on how people perform. And you can help keep your team focused and productive by avoiding these common errors:

Poor physical environment. Living in a cubicle city can be demoralizing. Create reasons for people to come together and establish guidelines for when visiting is or isn't appropriate.

Overload. Be realistic about deadlines and don’t just dump more work on the most productive staff.

Lack of involvement. This creates the impression that management doesn't care about the team or respect it, and people become disengaged.

Lack of feedback. Tell the team where things are coming together and where they are falling apart, or the uncertainty and the unknown will wreak havoc on morale.
