From the BlackBerry to Twitter, popular consumer products and applications are making their way into project management solutions, helping project leaders and teams stay better connected and on top of details. Here’s our March 2009 roundup of the latest Cool Tools in the project management world.

Popular social networking tools such as Facebook, Twitter and Yammer served as the inspiration for one of the most recent advancement in project management software from LiquidPlanner. The company, based in Bellevue, Wash., earlier this year introduced Workspace Chatter as part of its software-as-a-service offering.
 
With the dashboard-based chat applications, team members can stay in touch in real time as new tasks and ideas are integrated into the project plan. And, according to LiquidPlanner founder and CEO Charles Seybold, his company practices what they preach: They’ve used the communications tool religiously since December.
 
“We’ve found it to be a transformative piece of technology,” he says. “It marginalizes e-mail, which really isn’t the best tool for project management anyway. With this you can maintain multiple conversations.”
 
Workspace Chatter’s design also allows for as many — or as few — participants as the job warrants. And the system saves all conversation threads, a feature that, …
