Fluor Wins 2009 Project of the Year

Project Management Institute recognizes Fluor Corp.’s “superior team performance and exemplary execution of project management” in the engineering and construction of an award-winning power plant and related infrastructure in Nevada.

 
Fluor Corp. has been honored by Project Management Institute (PMI) as the winner of the 2009 Project of the Year Award for their engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of Newmont Mining Corp.’s TS Power Plant (TSPP) near Dunphy, Nevada, which supports gold mining operations. Fluor`s scope of work included planning, engineering and executing the project from 2004 to 2008. The project was completed two months ahead of schedule.
 
The TSPP facility, which started commercial operations on May 2008 and is one of the first in a line of new coal-fired power facilities, has exceeded planned performance guarantees, resulting in significant fuel savings to Newmont that will be realized over the life of the facility. In addition, actual plant output exceeded the contractual output. The facility recycles a significant amount of water, maximizing water utilization and minimizing waste, and also incorporates large evaporation ponds, eliminating liquid discharge. 
 
During the entire tenure of the project, there were no environmental citations, and more than three million safe hours were completed without a …
