An increasing number of Mac-based project management applications now have mature feature sets, increased flexibility and attractive usability that rival their Windows-based counterparts. Here’s one senior IT pro’s review of five Mac apps gaining notice in the project world.
There was a time when a project manager’s PC had to be running Microsoft Windows and the latest version of Microsoft Project. These days, Mac-based project management applications can do many of the key tasks that established project management applications can do, and in some areas such as cost and usability, they do them better.
Many of these Mac-based project management applications play into “the democratization of project management data” because they have an easy learning curve, multiple views of project data, and economical pricing that can let you distribute these applications across the Mac users on your project team.
It can still be difficult — and in many project environments, it’s impractical, if not impossible — to look past a Microsoft Project or Primavera. But for those who have the flexibility and interest in alternative solutions, here is my take on some Macintosh project management applications that, depending on your project realities, can get the job done.
