Greg Balestrero, who has overseen Project Management Institute’s global expansion and growth since 2002, will retire next January.
Project Management Institute (PMI) president and CEO Gregory Balestrero has announced that he will be retiring effective January 15, 2011. The search for Balestrero’s successor will formally begin in May 2010.
In an email communication to PMI members, Balestrero said that his decision to retire was “bittersweet,” but that looking forward to “this new chapter in his life.” He said he would be spending more time with family and “dedicating time to the social and environmental causes that mean so much to me.”
During his tenure, which began in 2002, Balestrero has overseen significant growth and global expansion of PMI membership; the development of four new credentials and 11 new standards; and the opening of service centers in Delhi, Brussels and Singapore.
In his email to members, Balestrero said, “When I arrived in 2002, we served 110,000 members and credential holders, 95 percent of whom were in North America. Today, however, we have over 500,000 members and credential holders in 180 countries, with nearly 45 percent outside of the U.S. No doubt PMI has matured into truly a global organization.”
