The PM’s iPad

Are you considering using the iPad for project management activities? Here are some useful observations from the field, along with a selection of project management applications already available for the new device.

The release of the Apple iPad continues to stoke excitement across business and consumer markets and offers project managers a real productivity tool that meets the requirements of the project manager’s always on and mobile working style. “Mobile is the new paper,” says Charles Seybold, founder and CEO of project management solution provider LiquidPlanner, which has already developed an iPhone application for its product and is now working on an iPad application.

For project managers considering the jump to the iPad, Seybold recommends good core software that represents well on the iPad. Some web applications may have to go through a user interface redesign to work effectively with the iPad’s Mobile Safari browser. My early tests of the Safari browser on some web applications showed mixed results, so you may have to play a waiting game until vendors update their applications to render better in the iPad’s browser.
