The iPad and Project Work
After giving the iPad a six-month workout in his work environment, project veteran Dave Prior shares some thoughts on creating presentations, taking notes, storing and linking information, and other helpful applications and extensions. Despite some shortcomings, the iPad, he predicts, will eventually change the way many of us manage projects.
Hey, I was very proud of myself for not standing in the lines of people camping out to buy an iPad. After all, I had no solid justification for buying it, at least none that didn’t result in my wife giving me “the look.” But I had tried a number of tablets in the past and I was curious to see if the folks at Apple could make one that sucked a little less than all the others. I managed to hold out for about three weeks — mostly just because I couldn’t find a store that had any in stock.
I wasn’t entirely sure what I would do with the iPad at first, but now that I’ve had six months to test it in an actual work environment, I thought I would share some of what I’ve learned along the way. I will say this, despite some shortcomings (which are hopefully only temporary), the iPad is an awesome device, and it has become a very important part of how I work.
