Government contractor Johnston McLamb shares details about the benefits of pursuing process improvement via a more rigorous CMMI rating. Such a trend is spreading among smaller IT firms worldwide, according to CMMI program manager Mike Phillips.

A recognized standard of quality, Capability Maturity Model Integration is a process improvement approach developed by the Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institutethat provides organizations with effective processes to boost performance. And in these competitive, challenging times, better performance is both a matter of company survival and success.

According to SEI’s CMMI Program Manager Mike Phillips, more companies are pursuing a CMMI rating, which ranges from Maturity Level 2 to 5, to strengthen their capabilities. In particular, small and medium-size businesses, both domestic and international, represent the fastest-growing groups earning the designation now, according to SEI data. (See “CMMI Trends”)

Virginia-based Johnston McLamb reflects the trend.
