When traveling long distance to a job site either as a mobile employee or contractor, the trips can get more than a little trying. Maybe you are one of those happy voyagers with a large expense account, grand accommodations and a dedicated staff to help smooth your way into your relaxing home away from home, but the reality for most of us on the go is that it is not as romantic as it sounds.
Even before the economy tanked and impacted our business travel, portable workers were being given marching orders about how to reduce expenses, shop around for good deals and book their own travel arrangements. Travelers are being told to itemize every little purchase and are also informed--in very stern terms--that authorization by various officials is required in order to go beyond various imposed cost ceilings. Adding to the already-full plate of their normal job-related activities, these workers are also struggling to go through hoops of airline, rental car and hotel websites to get the most cost-effective plans and stay within budget.
Not so glamorous a picture, is it? To help lessen the burden upon these corporate nomads, it is important to try and make things easier at the job site as much as possible.
