Agile Manifesto Turns 10
An anniversary event in Utah celebrates the Agile Manifesto, gathering five of the original authors and others to address future industry challenges.
This weekend, leaders in the agile movement are going back to where it all began, celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the Manifesto for Agile Software Development, in Utah at the Lodge at Snowbird, where the manifesto was forged on Feb. 12, 2001.
Reflecting the consensus of its 17 authors, the manifesto was written a decade ago to promote development that accommodates changing requirements, collaboration with customers and delivery of software in short iterations. In the intervening years, agile practices and values have quickly impacted development processes worldwide.
The anniversary event will include five of the original authors, including Alistair Cockburn, who will host a discussion with leaders about the state of the software development industry. “I’m excited to bring together interesting and thoughtful people who have been developing software for a long time,” Cockburn said. “Besides the celebration of the original event, our theme is ‘Solved, Solvable and Unsolvable Problems,’ which I hope will produce a working agenda — broader than just agile development — for the next 10 years in our industry.”
