Everyone’s Talking Agile Certification
The project management blogosphere is weighing in on the upcoming Agile certification from PMI. Here’s a recent sampling along with an interview with PMI vice president of IT Frank Schettini, who discusses the development of the certification and what it can offer the profession.
With more organizations applying Agile techniques to manage projects, the Project Management Institute is preparing to introduce a new Agile certification. The February announcement did not come as a shock to industry observers — the PMI Agile Community of Practice was launched in 2009, and Agile-related topics are now a significant presence at PMI Congresses and seminars.
Still, the creation of an Agile certification has stirred up discussion within the Agile and project management community about how it was developed, what it will entail, and how it might change the perception and practice of Agile moving forward. On the blog front, opinions have been mostly positive or, at the least, hopeful.
At Zen PM, Bob Tarne, a certified project manager (PMP), Scrum Master (CSM), and Six Sigma Black Belt, posted: Back when I got my PMP certification (about 10 years ago now), not a lot of people knew what it was. Now most jobs for project managers ask for the PMP certification. With PMI's large membership and reach, I think this will help agile project management become more mainstream.
