For the third time in my career, I am involved in starting up a PMO, this time for a global oil and gas industry vendor. If you have been in this position — coming into a company that has little in the way of formal structure for project management, and developing structure and process improvement on the fly — you know it’s lonely at the top. Lucky for me, the new book An Inside Look at High-Performing PMOs (PM Solutions Research, 2011), by Kent Crawford and Jeannette Cabanis-Brewin, was published just in time to provide me with a pocket source of information and support.
