Tactics for Staying on the Performance Edge
When it comes to optimizing workforce performance, what are you prepared to do? To use the latest techniques in your project means you may have to go against mainstream corporate culture or cut a little into the power wielded by certain individuals. Are you ready to do this? For motivation, you want to make sure you know what IT workers want now, in this environment. Here are three categories that have been proven important motivators but are often not used well:
- Give workers more autonomy. Provide as much leeway as appropriate, so think about what is appropriate. Not sure what is appropriate? Take it step by step. First approve their action plan before acting. Later, let them report during actions. Finally, give worker the ability to make their own decisions.
- Allow workers to achieve mastery. Find ways to make it easy to improve skills even if you don’t need those skills in your project right away.
