PMO Team, Assemble!
At the Academy Awards this past weekend, they re-assembled on stage after a successful spring in 2012. The movie The Avengers (based on the popular Marvel comic book series) portrays a team of very different heroes put together to combat a supernatural and extraterrestrial threat to Earth, and especially New York City. The secret to the team’s strength is their diversity: a mythical god, a hero from World War II, a genius who uses advanced technology, a large green monster and several spies round out the group.
Each of these heroes could stand on their own, but together they become greater than a sum of individuals. Project managers should take heed and pay attention to the composition of this team and the way they are brought together. Creating and enabling a really good team is a very important part of managing projects.
The Thunder
In the movie, Thor is a major character who just happens to be the god of thunder from Norse mythology. Thor is a very powerful character that truly knows how to make an impact on his foes. In the PMO team, a character like Thor would be the charismatic spokesperson for the project. He would be able to dazzle the customer with a lightning show (or more likely, a great power point presentation).
