PMO of Year: Canada Health Infoway

Charged with accelerating the development and adoption of electronic health IT projects, Infoway’s portfolio management office oversees more than 600 active and completed project phases, with about 150 active project phases reporting each month.

Project Management Institute has named Canada Health Infoway’s Portfolio Management Office as the winner of the 2013 PMO of the Year Award. The honor, bestowed during PMI’s 2013 PMO Symposium, recognizes project, program and portfolio management offices (PMOs) that have had a positive and clear impact on an organization’s strategic goals and business results.

Canada Health Infoway is an independent, not-for-profit corporation funded by the Government of Canada. It jointly invests with every province and territory to accelerate the development and adoption of electronic health information technology projects. To deliver on this promise, Infoway plays the role of “strategic investor” to plan, invest, advise and monitor projects that are managed and implemented with its partners — provincial/territorial Ministries of Health and other public sector entities such as hospitals and health regions. It is the steward of CAD$2.1 billion of public funds, and must be transparent and accountable for these investments.
