Years ago when I was still active in training sales, one of the most common calls I would get went something like this:

“Hello! My group needs project management training.”

“Sure. What specific type of training are they looking for?”

“I don’t know. I just know I need project management training…”

Does this sound familiar? Are you in a position where you think you or your staff need project management training but aren’t sure where to start? Are you somewhat frustrated at the result? In this article, we will explore some of the basic things to consider when looking at the plethora of project management training courses and programs available.

Selecting the right course can be a real challenge. However, let’s look at simplifying the selection a little bit. Answer the following question, and this will help you identify where you need to start: When considering a project management course, what is the key objective you hope to achieve when the course is complete?

A. I want to better understand the basic concepts of project management (Foundational Understanding)
B. I need to be more aware of my role in project management (Awareness)
C. I know the basics and want to have an advanced understanding of PM
D. I am looking for credibility
