What is BTM-Squared?

A methodology developed by SAP in partnership with the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of NW Switzerland addresses the challenges of complex business transformations through an integration of strategy, value and risk management.

It is somewhat foreboding that John Kotter’s seminal work Leading Change is subtitled “Why Transformation Efforts Fail.” Indeed, industry surveys continue to confirm the brutal fact that more change initiatives fail than succeed. Considering that the budgets for business transformation programs are often in the millions of dollars, the implications — benefits and risks — of these efforts are often so large that they can determine the future of the organization. Certainly, this challenge warrants the highest level of management focus.

So how do we improve the odds for success?

In response, global software giant SAP, in partnership with the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of NW Switzerland, has developed a holistic Business Transformation Management Methodology (BTM2). This framework for business transformation has significant implications for global business initiatives and the project management community. You will recognize some similarities in BTM2 to Project Management Institute’s Organizational Program Management (OPM) concepts.
