The Structured Agile Method
Which project management methodology is most effective in delivering your project? Numerous methodologies exist for delivering engineering, business and process improvement projects, like waterfall, iterative, PRINCE2, Six Sigma and many other variants.
Traditionally, engineering and business projects have been delivered using the waterfall method and process improvement projects have used Six Sigma. But recently, iterative and agile methods have become popular due to the early customer feedback that can improve the outcome of the project. The challenge, however, is that agile does not work well for larger programs. So how do you use agile for larger programs to introduce improved project outcomes?
One of the solutions that has been provided is the Scaled Agile Framework method, which uses Kanban at the program level and agile at the project level to deliver projects. However, the challenge with this approach is that most project managers are not familiar with the Kanban approach.
Also, while the Kanban system has been successfully used in manufacturing, it may be hard to use in other engineering areas like information technology projects--which often have shifting customer requirements and could require rework, which could result in delays between the agile delivery and the Kanban program management approach. As the Scaled Agile Framework requires a quick
