Most of what I read is for a project manager with only one team and one project. Unfortunately, in my organization I often have two or three projects at the same time. And to make matters worse, they are all to be done by the same group of people along with their regular departmental work. Obviously, projects drag on and on. Any way to overcome this mess?

A. Ask your team for their ideas on how you can approach and remove the conflicts of interest inherent in this dilemma. Allow each person to make the necessary changes to make their own contributions more effective.

B.  Gather and present a well-defined overview of the problem. Ask the manager directly above you to work with other stakeholders to solve this issue. It can’t continue as it is currently designed.

C. Choose the project you feel is most important and direct your focus on finishing it. Then move on to the next one. This is the only way to get any speed and sense of closure for you and your team.

D. Regardless of your organization’s structure, make some common sense changes from your level of authority down. Then work backward to eventually educate the decision makers above you.
