Topic Teasers Vol. 45: Simplifying Change Processes
My past projects for changes in internal processes have often failed, but not because of the usual reasons of cost, time or quality. It’s just that after the fact they haven’t been accepted and implemented willingly and successfully throughout the organization. Now I have another one. How do I alter my project to make this one not only completed, but accepted?
A. Having management pressure for employees to either accept and use the new rollout deliverables or receive a pink slip is the only guarantee to companywide implementation.
B. Thinking ahead to integrate change processes into the project plan from the first will increase your chances of acceptance by the end usersr.
C. A third-party change management consultant should be engaged when you have completed the work of the project and are ready to roll out your results. Only suggestions from an outside source will be considered worth accepting by internal employees.
D. It is beyond the scope of the project manager’s role to worry about how your deliverables are used or not used. Deliver what you were asked in the requirements document and you have fulfilled the role expected of you.
