Companies are Becoming Agile...What’s Your Game Plan?

These days, many companies cannot afford to take weeks to capture customer requirements, run through design and review sessions, develop and go through lengthy test cycles and rollout the deliverables--at least not in tandem. Competitors are becoming much more dynamic and it is no longer prudent to spend that much time and resources without knowing that the final product will still meet strategic needs.

Therefore, many companies are choosing to adopt agile methodologies to remain nimble and “adapt” as the project progresses. Recently, the Wall Street Journal reported that GE Healthcare started embracing agile in its IT organization. In fact, it is targeting to achieve 60% of projects/programs spend in the current year to be done using agile. This move is not the reaction of some overzealous ScrumMaster--rather GE has to retain a competitive advantage. As the WSJ reported, a project around business analytics for finance department was successfully implemented at GE in 12 months that would historically have taken 18-24 months.
And of course, GE is not alone in its journey to agile--there are many companies that have already moved to agile (or are in the process), e.g. British Airways, NYSE Euronext, Department of Homeland Security, SuccessFactors, Tesco.com, CNC Software/Mastercam, etc.  In fact, as businesses are changing at a pace we have …
