From Problem Space to Solution Space: The Flexibility of Agile Rituals

For the last few years, we have been using agile methodologies such as Scrum and XP in our projects and as a team we gained a lot in terms of productivity, client involvement, frequent feedback and many more. But one most important change that I have observed in almost all the teams I have worked is the level of ownership each team member wants to take and how they have started making suggestions even to product owners about the possible improvements as well as thinking in terms of solution as a team.

In the early days of my career when I was working for a very big project in the aerospace industry, my manager in the United States told us that we were always shooting mails to the team in America for problems we were facing related to technology and domain. That was perfectly okay for new team members like us, but it would be great if we could also suggest some solutions along with the problem as this will increase our confidence and understanding and would help the busy team in the States.

I liked the suggestion very much and started using this practice in my projects. This requires a team member facing a problem or situation to step into the shoes of the customer or requirement provider in terms of approaching a problem. I totally agree that many times it is not easy to think in such terms, but at least this can provide a starting point to discuss about the problem …
