5 Top Personality Traits to Look for in Your Agile Team Members
While waterfall is a very process\-driven model, agile is very personality driven. Obviously, one starts thinking about the kind of people that will drive success in agile, and conversely, the kind of people for whom agile may not work.
As a practitioner working on a very niche area of agile in ERP, this was an important list to draw up. We work with small but highly specialized teams, and every member of the team can impact the team very much. It is important to choose our team members carefully, so that it works for them and works for us.
1. Internal Locus of Control
This one is a no-brainer. In plain speak, we are saying "self motivated". Anyone whose motivation comes from work well done is likely to do very well in an Agile environment.
2. High EQ
Agile is about people. It takes all kinds to make the world. High EQ ensures an ability to get along with all kinds of people. At the very least, it ensures that a person is able to handle their own emotional responses. That is extremely important in an agile environment.
3. Perfectionists
In general , perfectionists tend to focus on getting it right, and preferably, getting it right the first time. The entire concept of agile is about getting things right the first time. Scrum does not even allow for debugging time in any iteration.
