So, after many years of leading Fortune 100 Company’s agile delivery and transformation effort, I decided to take my skills &and experience to a smaller but growing organization that provides software solution to the health insurance industry. My primary role was to define and execute strategic objectives to help the organization manage anticipated growth effectively and efficiently. Our first major milestone was driven by the recently legislated Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (more affectionately referred to as “Obamacare”), which mandated all carriers to have open enrollment on the exchanges operational by October 1, 2013.
My project was launched earlier in the year to follow a waterfall-like approach and the current work plan was in disarray from constantly shifting requirements. No surprise to anyone, but due to requirements ‘’issues” with the Federal Government--along with a few internal missteps--there was no way we were going to be ready to deliver everything we had committed to by October 1.
In addition, my PM suddenly resigned, unable to handle the stress and the near-impossibility of the situation. Any fear I had of being bored by moving to a smaller company was quickly erased as I was suddenly faced with a project with delivery date in two months--but running significantly behind schedule--and
